Nervous yet excited glances filled the campus as the new school year began on June 26, 2024. Students reunited with old friends and made new colleagues while familiarizing themselves with their courses’ overviews.

However, confusion arose as some courses did not have professors present. It was also revealed that, despite the earlier starting date, some courses still do not have assigned professors, as reflected in Campus++, hence there were no professors to attend those classes.

Students voiced their dismay through casual interviews filmed by The Access Point on June 27. A student from Entertainment and Multimedia Computing (EMC) stated, “It feels a bit unprepared… but it’s still the first day [week], so I think there’s that,” noting that the lack of professors was evident. Some expressed concerns about the impact on their learning schedules and the need for better communication from the administration.

Additionally, a Google Form disseminated on July 4 revealed that, currently, 51.5% of the respondents do not have all of their professors finalized on Campus++. Among the student respondents, 47% specified that they still lack a professor in 6OOP, followed by 6ICYBER, and more. The remaining 48.5% reported having all of their professors finalized already, but 31.3% of these respondents noted that some professors were still unable to attend their classes.

On the other hand, Dr. Marlon Tayag, SoC Dean, stated, “We know about the struggles, and we [the faculty] already have a plan and are taking action as we speak. Some of the chairs are also voluntarily substituting [for some courses that are still in need of professors] at the moment.”
