Foxes United: Highlights from the School of Computing General Assembly 2023

On August 16, 2023, the School of Computing (SoC) at Holy Angel University held its annual General Assembly at the University Theater. The event kicked off with an inspiring opening address by Dr. Marlon Tayag, the Dean of the SoC. He emphasized the importance of embracing a vision for an innovative future and encouraged everyone to remember the journey that the students embarked upon.

The assembly ventured into a profound exploration of various academic facets. These encompassed the intricate dynamics of class structures, ranging from traditional face-to-face setups to the ever-evolving online learning environments. The discourse extended to the university’s mission and vision, shedding light on the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and societal impact. The elucidation of strategic goals and objectives further illustrated the school’s resolute dedication to shaping well-rounded individuals prepared for the challenges of the modern world. Ms. Jeanky Mendez provided a comprehensive overview of laboratory procedures, elucidating the importance of hands-on learning experiences in shaping future computing professionals.

The event not only celebrated academic prowess but also highlighted the vibrant and dynamic nature of the student body. Various student organizations accorded a prominent platform for introduction, each catering to distinct areas of interest and expertise:

Code Geeks, specializing in the art of Web Development, showcased their commitment to the digital frontier. LOOP, an organization dedicated to programming enthusiasts, demonstrated their passion for coding excellence. MAFIA, with its creative exploration of multimedia and animation, provided a glimpse into the world of multimedia art. CSIA, for the cybersecurity haven. Access Point, the official publication of the School of Computing. Lastly, CSC, the student council, stood as the unwavering representative body of the student community, ensuring their voices were heard and concerns addressed.

The assembly also saw the formal introduction of dedicated faculty members who tirelessly mentor and guide the students on their academic journeys. Attendees had the invaluable opportunity to acquaint themselves with the passionate staff, esteemed faculty, and efficient administration that form the backbone of the department.

The assembly was not merely an informative session; it was a visionary exercise in forward-thinking. Plans and activities of the CSC-SOC were meticulously outlined, illuminating the path forward for the department. The General Assembly concluded promptly at 5 o’clock in the afternoon, marking the successful gathering of the SoC community and the celebration of its shared vision for the future.
