Accommodating and friendly smiles, complemented by lively games and enticing merchandise, warmly welcomed guests as they entered HAU’s St. Joseph Hall, known as the home of foxes, on March 12, 2024 for its event, A Day with the Foxes.

The School of Computing extended an invitation to aspiring college students from HAU Lazarus, ACSHS, and Porac National HS, encouraging them to explore the different Computer-related courses offered by the department. Opening remarks from Mr. Marlon Tayag, the SOC Dean, and Mr. Leopoldo Valdes, the OIC President, set the stage for an informative event. An audiovisual presentation showcased the School of Computing’s courses and esteemed faculty members, followed by a detailed overview of SOC Organizations, including League of Outstanding Programmers (LOOP), Multimedia Aficionados For Interested Artists (MAFIA), Code Geeks (CG), Cybersecurity Intelligence Alliance (CSIA), and the SOC College Student Council (SOC-CSC), as well as The Access Point (AP), the department’s publication.

Following the AVP presentation, a map guide and tour flow were displayed to guide guests. Throughout the tour, various laboratories featured unique showcases. At the CSIA laboratories, attendees explored the IT Clinic with a 3D printer demonstration, topology, and hacking tool explanations. In SJH 702, guests participated in a “capture the flag” activity with challenging problems, complemented by a tour of the CISCO room. In the MAFIA laboratories, SJH 601 allowed guests to experiment with tablets using digital pens, while SJH 609 showcased a business focused on arts and merchandise. SJH 605 demonstrated their creative process through drawing activities. At LOOP’s laboratory in SJH 703, Computer Science students presented demonstrations of various programs they’ve developed, including popular games like Snake and Hangman. Finally, in the Code Geeks’ Laboratory, SJH 707, guests learned about the BS IT program and admired a showcase of web designs created by IT-WebDev students.

From engaging demonstrations to a more thorough walk-through laboratory by the laboratory, the School of Computing has managed to entice and showcase what it’s got for the potential foxes. The event fostered a welcoming environment while offering guests meaningful experiences and valuable information about the School of Computing’s programs and activities which will be continued the next day, March 13, 2024.
