Pair of Soul (Coming Out)

Infinity PRIDE Saga: SOUL

I died that day.

When I opened my eyes, I couldn’t remember anything. I wandered my eyes around and saw a woman sitting beside my bed with a sense of relief in her eyes, and at that moment, I knew one thing.

She’s my mother.

Since that day, everything has changed. People say I don’t look the same. I don’t sound the same. I don’t act the same. Like I’ve become a new person—a different soul in a body they once knew.

I question myself.

Am I really that different from before?

I hear a familiar voice from behind.

“Is everything alright? ”

My heavy heart and fogged soul suddenly cleared out.

“Did I really change?” I asked her.

Yes, she said. The heavy feeling starts to weigh again. But she continued, “Yes, you’ve changed, but you’re changing every day—everyone does. It feels like it was just yesterday I was carrying you in my arms, and the next moment you’re doubting yourself about everything…kids these days.”

My mother hugs me. “If other people won’t recognize and accept you for who you are now, maybe it’s time to change the people you surround yourself with. But if anything will stay the same, it’s my love and support for you. I don’t care how you look, how you sound, or how you act. I love you just the same.”

At that moment, I lived.

She loved and accepted me.

She saw me for who I truly am. My ever unchanging soul.

The memories of the past came flashing, everything all at once.

I saw my two-year-old self. Trying to walk while holding my mother’s hand outside. I let go of her hand and walked a few steps, then stumbled. My hands and sole were dirty. I cried for a moment because of the pain but stopped when I saw her immediately pick me up and hug me, just like now.

Our souls, coming together.

My eyes start watering, and tears fall down my cheek for a moment, but this time with joy. I guess they’re right; I did change after all.
