Last October 11, 2021, elementary school students from the Basic Education Department participated in a seminar on online safety and etiquette. The seminar was presented by School of Computing (SOC) faculty members Arcely Napalit, Avigail Magbag, and Bernard De Guzman with each faculty handling a different grade level from the 4th grade to the 6th grade.
Held under the Holy Angel University Internet Safety and Security Awareness (HAUisAWARE) program, it aimed at teaching students proper online etiquette and online safety. The seminar discussed popular social media sites, forms of online entertainment, and even online AI tools. Speakers spoke about the possible effects of these tools and advised on proper etiquette when using them. Staying safe online was also emphasized during the talks.
Students were briefed on what to do with strangers online and the importance of talking to their parents about online activities. Additionally, students learned about Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and ways to keep it from spreading online. Helping the facilitators were student volunteers from the various SOC organizations who also contributed by creating the PowerPoint presentations used in the seminars.
